STRS Ohio
The State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS) has been protecting educators for more than 100 years. A strong STRS is not only important to current retirees but also future generations of Ohioans.
STRS Ohio provides a guaranteed income for life, survivor and disability protection and optional health care coverage upon retirement. This is a defined benefit plan, meaning the amount you will receive in retirement is determined in advance based on your age, your years of service and your final average salary.
The fund has been in the spotlight recently due to executive bonuses and a cut in cost of living adjustments for retirees. However, despite the negative press, STRS Ohio is in solid financial shape. The fund ranks among the top 10% of public funds for returns on investments. In addition, it invests more than $1.1 billion in companies that are headquartered or have significant operations in Ohio. This investment helps local communities and contributes to the economy.
